Building on LiveKit, and why that's a feature

How cloud call works

People sometimes ask if Socrits is "just a LiveKit wrapper." It's a fair question with a clear answer: the media layer is LiveKit's open-source SFU, and that's deliberate.

Don't reinvent the SFU

WebRTC at scale is genuinely hard — simulcast, congestion control, codec negotiation. LiveKit solves this in the open, better than we'd build from scratch.

Build the product layer

What LiveKit intentionally leaves to you is exactly what a product needs:

  • Signalling and call invitations
  • Offline ringing
  • Persistent chat
  • A multi-tenant control plane, API keys and metering
  • SDKs with one identical API across platforms

That's the layer Socrits is. The core is proven and open; the product around it is the part you'd otherwise spend a year building.
